Increasing Wages Can Save You Money!

How a Minnesota Organization Raised Pay Rates $3 Per Hour to Save $80,000

Background

A service industry provider who equips companies with work crews that clean and set up for large functions.

The Challenge

Our client was initially working with one of the premiere sports stadium in Minnesota. They needed a flexible crew who could work when events occurred at the venue. These associates would work an average of 150 days in a calendar year while requiring the same associates return for each event. The inability to retrain associates would cause extra hours of work on each shift.

Prior to our services, our client had a crew of 29 employees per shift. The rate of pay for these associates was $12 per hour which segmented the quality of their workforce. Their crews were often staffed with novices who couldn’t perform the desired tasks. This resulted in shifts that exceeded ten-hours per event with a turnover rate of 70 percent per shift.

Our Solution

Our solution was strategic. We wanted to recruit a different type of candidate. We identified associates that were able to utilize this opportunity as their primary part-time job. We were able to show our client that these types of associates would be able to perform the desired task in less time if they were compensated $15 per hour. This allowed associates to commit to the schedule and inevitably decreasing turnover while performing duties with less associates.

Implementation

To achieve this rate of pay, we needed to decrease the crew size to 26 associates. After the first week, we were able to reduce the crew size to 23 associates while still completing all the required duties in an 8-hour shift.

Results

The result of hiring more experienced and committed associates saved the client $86,400 in the first year of utilizing our services.

Not Every On-Site Is Something to Brag About

How Selecting the Wrong On-Site Provider Made One Company Skeptical of the Value They Can Deliver

Background

A manufacturing company in Minnesota that regularly utilizes 100 to 250 temporary associates to fabricate and package their product.

The Challenge

The organization’s temporary staffing needs were highly dependent on their customer’s orders. This meant they can have the need for 50 new associates with less than 24 hours’ notice. Their on-site service provider was a nationally accredited staffing agency that developed a reputation for not being visible to management. This created a relationship where the organization was responsible for managing associate onboarding, orientations and time keeping.

Our Solution

We implemented a Managed Service Program that provided an on-site solution. We were able to provide a Client Solutions Manager, who was able to check in all new associates while providing a 15-minute new-hire orientation. The Client Solutions Manager regulated all staffing data in Fieldglass Flex. This provided our client with real-time data on their workforce, daily timeclock management and order distribution to multiple staffing suppliers.

Results

From day one, our client experienced multiple results that greatly impacted their business. New associates started their opportunities with a clear understanding of their role, expectations and coaching for successful. Our solution and process provided valuable time back into their managers work days. Managers estimated our solution saves them an average of five hours a week per manager in their facilities.

Annually, we were able to save our client $88,920 by giving 12 managers five hours of their work-week back.
